The Museum

The Luxembourg American Cultural Society’s Roots and Leaves Museum is the showpiece of the Cultural Center.  Housed in the rebuilt Mamer-Hansen Luxembourgian stone barn originally built in 1872 by Jacob Mamer, a Luxembourg immigrant who came to Ozaukee County, Wisconsin in 1846, the museum tells the story of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, as well as Luxembourg immigration.

39th Annual Luxembourg Fest Press Release

LACS Announces 2025 Luxembourg Fest

[Belgium, Wisconsin, June 20, 2025.]

Luxembourg is a hidden gem in the heart of Europe. While small in size, the country is rich in culture and history as the world’s last Sovereign Grand Duchy and one of the wealthiest countries on the planet. In the 1800s, Luxembourg immigrants settled around what is now the Village of Belgium. To this day, the area remains full of pride for its unique Luxembourg heritage and continued ties with the country which still stand strong today. The Luxembourg American Cultural Society is proud to present the 39th annual Luxembourg Fest in Belgium, WI, August 8-10, 2025.

Friday, August 8th

The LACS will host its annual Cultural Forum, “Basics of Genealogy” featuring Jean Ensch & Debby Warner Anderson. The forum takes place at the Cedarburg Cultural Center with registration and coffee at 9:30 am and the conference from 10 am- 12:20pm. The eagerly anticipated “Luxembourg Under the Stars” will take place at Buechler Farm just down the road from the LACS. This exclusive event, will bring together Luxembourgers and Luxembourg-Americans from around the globe for a night of culinary delight and cultural celebration. Guests will be treated to an exquisite dinner menu created especially for this evening paired with Luxembourg Beverages held in the Buechler Farm Rustic Barn while enjoying live acoustic music by the Tonic Roots. The evening will start at 6pm with a cocktail & social hour. Tickets can now be reserved at https://www.lacs.lu/luxembourg-fest-week/luxembourg-under-the-stars/

 

Saturday, August 9th

The Hämmelsmarsch (sheep march), which traditionally kicks off Luxembourgish festivals, commences at 11 am with a parade marching west down Belgium’s Main Street to festival grounds at Community Park. Immediately following the parade, the Wisconsin Diamond Dancers will lead free Luxembourgish folk dance lessons. All are welcome to participate, regardless of age or skill level.

A complimentary Kid’s Zone will once again be provided, with straw bales, crafts, games, bounce houses and more!

*New this year, join Jason Kollum from 1pm-3pm on Saturday in becoming Bubble SuperStars for an interactive bubble experience. Kids of all ages will get to interact with small bubbles, big bubbles, and all bubbles in between. Bubbles will literally fill the outdoors space! Who doesn’t love bubbles? Even Adults can get in on the fun too!

Come to fest hungry this year as we have a little something for everyone! Ranging from traditional mettwurst and mustreipen to waffles, rootbeer floats, and cotton candy, this year’s food options won’t disappoint. Bear witness to (or participate in) the World’s Largest Treipen-eating Contest, shop the artist corner, and sip the finest in Luxembourgish beers, wines and ciders all afternoon with music by DJ Peace.

Stay later at fest this year, connecting with family and friends while enjoying an evening of music with Second Hand Stereo bringing tunes from Pop & Rock, to Country & Oldies. Join Malakai, Jake, and Mike as they bring energy to the evening of Luxembourg Fest from 5pm-8pm.

 

Sunday August 10th

Sunday will once again include classic Luxembourg Fest events. Luxembourg Fest Mass will begin on Fest Grounds at 10am. Following mass will be the Luxembourg Fest pageantry, where Michael & Anne Calteaux will be crowned Duke and Duchess of Fest, and the Burmesch family will be honored. Food including both the popular Luxembourg treipen and American fare will be available following the service into the afternoon.

**After a long-time hiatus, the Sheepshead Tournament is back this year! Starting right after the Sunday Mass, join us for a fun-filled afternoon of exciting sheepshead played the traditional Luxembourg-American way. Enjoy the camaraderie with other avid and beginner sheepshead players alike. All skill levels are welcome to join. Hour-long sessions will be held at 12pm, 1pm, and 2pm. $2 entry fee per person, per session. Compete for prizes while playing this classic Luxembourg-American game. Registration for the tournament will take place day of event.

 

From Wednesday through Sunday, August 6-10th, the LACS Museum, Gift Shop and Research Center will be open with waived admission fees from 10 am until 3 pm.
